To start using LINE notification messages, decide what you want to notify customers about and contact your Lumo representative or use the contact form. You can send important notifications by phone number before customers add your account as a friend, but you must apply first.
Official information checked on September 9, 2026. This guide focuses on LINE Official Accounts in Japan. References to Japanese requirements and examples don't establish availability in other regions.
What LINE notification messages can do
LINE notification messages match the phone numbers your business holds with numbers registered on LINE to deliver important shipping, reservation, and similar updates.
Customers can receive a notification without adding your account as a friend if they meet the receiving requirements. Receiving one doesn't automatically make them a friend. The permitted uses and receiving requirements differ from regular broadcasts. LINE Developers overview
| Example | When to send |
|---|---|
| Shipping confirmation | After the customer's order has shipped |
| Reservation confirmation or reminder | When a reservation is confirmed or its date approaches |
| Payment notification | When a charge is finalized or a payment is completed |
Use only purposes and content permitted by LY Corporation. Don't repurpose notifications for product promotions or sale announcements. Don't put information that explicitly identifies a person, such as their name, phone number, email address, or address, in the message. Check the UX guidelines for the type you use.
Choosing between template and flexible types
First check whether an official template covers your purpose; discuss the flexible type if you need a custom layout.
| Item | Template type | Flexible type |
|---|---|---|
| Content | Combine official text, items, and buttons | Use a reviewed message and layout, such as a Flex Message |
| Application | Required | Required |
| UX review | Generally not required, with exceptions for certain uses | Required before use and when adding purposes or message items |
| Lumo setup | Create a notification template and select it in an Auto Send Message | Put the reviewed content in an Auto Send Message |
| Next guide | Sending template notifications | Sending flexible notifications |
Template uses that require UX review
The official guidelines updated on September 8, 2026 require prior UX review and special usage conditions for these six purposes:
- Points awarded
- Coupon acquired
- Points expiration
- Coupon expiration
- Miles awarded
- Miles expiration
These exceptions don't permit unrestricted advertising or bulk coupon distribution. Check the conditions before applying. Template UX guidelines
Check the flexible UX guidelines for flexible applications. Approval for template notifications doesn't necessarily include flexible notifications.
What you need to use this feature
Check your Lumo plan, LINE Official Account, and LINE Developers provider before applying.
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Lumo plan | Enterprise; confirm your current contract with your representative |
| LINE Official Account | Premium or verified account |
| LINE Developers provider | Certified provider |
| Lumo connection | The sending LINE Official Account must be connected |
| Purpose | Must comply with LY Corporation's permitted uses and UX guidelines |
| Recipient data | Customer phone numbers and the transaction or procedure details needed for the notification |
See the official service page for LINE requirements and plan features for Lumo requirements.
You can ask for advice even if your account isn't verified or you don't know which provider it uses. Share the existing setup with your representative before recreating channels or providers.
Starting an application inquiry
Tell your Lumo representative or use the contact form to request LINE notification messages.
Marketing Agent can help organize the intended use if you haven't chosen the content or type. Submit application documents and check review progress through your representative.
Prepare the following information. Write “not decided” for anything you haven't determined yet.

You don't need to attach customer phone lists or credentials to the initial inquiry. Use fictional values in sample messages.
Moving from application to launch
After the inquiry, submit the requested documents and wait for confirmation that you can start using the service before configuring delivery in Lumo.
| Stage | Action | Check before continuing |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Initial discussion | Explain the purpose, account, integration, and expected volume | Available type and prerequisites |
| 2. Costs and process | Review the quotation and required documents | Lumo fees, notification charges, and any review fee |
| 3. Application and review | Submit documents, sample messages, and destination details | Respond to missing information and complete any required UX review |
| 4. Start confirmation | Check your representative's notice | Approved account, type, purposes, and start date |
| 5. Setup and testing | Configure the Auto Send Message and sending route | Verify delivery, content, and links with test recipients |
Ask the representative handling your application about progress and additional documents. An application receipt isn't approval. Being able to save a template in Lumo doesn't confirm LINE's approval either.
Checking fees and review timelines
Fees and the time needed to start depend on your contract, intended use, and review requirements.
- Confirm Lumo subscription fees separately from LINE notification message charges
- Confirm whether review fees apply to flexible or other review-required uses and check the quotation
- Include document preparation, account verification, and follow-up questions when discussing a start date
LINE notification messages have their own pricing. Regular LINE Official Account messaging rates and a previous LITTLE HELP CONNECT contract don't necessarily apply. LY Corporation's pricing change announcement
Requirements for customers to receive notifications
A valid phone number alone doesn't guarantee delivery; customers must also meet LINE's receiving requirements.
Check that:
- The destination number matches the number registered on LINE
- The customer permits LINE notification messages
- The customer hasn't blocked the sending LINE Official Account
- Any required SMS phone verification is complete
LINE also requires an eligible phone number issued in a supported region and agreement to its privacy policy. Full receiving requirements
SMS verification is generally required once every 180 days. Exceptions include accounts created or phone numbers changed within the previous 180 days. Recipients should follow LINE's instructions. LINE's SMS verification is separate from authentication needed to protect personal information on a linked page. Receiving flow
Moving from LITTLE HELP CONNECT
If you already use LINE notification messages, tell your representative which account and purposes have been approved.
LITTLE HELP CONNECT templates, Auto Send Messages, and HubSpot actions may need changes before you can use them with Lumo. Prepare:
- The LINE Official Account and application or review results
- Whether you use template or flexible notifications
- Approved text, message items, and destinations
- The HubSpot workflows or other sending systems
- Your current contract and billing terms
Confirm whether switching to Lumo requires additional procedures, even for an approved purpose. Test the new setup and prevent the old and new settings from sending duplicate notifications before switching over.
