A Rich Message lets you place tappable areas on top of an image and assign actions to them, such as opening a link or sending text. Here, we walk you through how to create one step by step.
What Is a Rich Message
A Rich Message is a message that uses a single image as the background, with tappable areas layered on top of it. When someone taps an area, it can open a URL you specify or send a predefined text. The Rich Messages you create can be used in a Message Broadcast or in Auto Send Messages.
Because it catches the eye more than plain text or images, it works well for campaign announcements and for guiding customers toward your products.
Let the Agent Handle It
You can have the agent prepare a Rich Message for you simply by telling it your goal.
In Auto mode or Create mode, just say something like "I want to send a sale announcement for a new product as a Rich Message," and the agent will propose the content and take it all the way through to preparing the Message Broadcast. All you have to do is review the proposed content and choose "Approve" or "Cancel".
If you would rather build it out in detail yourself, you can create one using the steps below.
Requirements for Using This Feature
To create and send a Rich Message, the following conditions must be met.
- You are logged in to Lumo
- Your LINE Official Account is connected
Create a Rich Message
Open the list of Rich Messages from the navigation menu to start creating a new one.
- From "Message Items" in the navigation menu, open "Rich Message"
- Click "Create Rich Message"
- Configure each setting on the creation screen
Enter the Basic Information
For a Rich Message, you set a name for identification and the alternative text that appears in notifications.
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | A name to help you identify the Rich Message in the admin screen. It is not shown to recipients |
| Alternative text | The text shown in push notifications and in the chat list. On devices that cannot display the image, this text is shown instead |
There are conditions for when alternative text is displayed. For details, see "About Displaying Alternative Text."
Upload an Image
Upload the image that will serve as the background of the Rich Message.
The width is fixed at 1040px. For the height, you can choose a square (1040px×1040px) or specify any height you like. You can pick the option that fits your purpose, such as a tall vertical banner for a product.
Choose a Layout
Choose the pattern for dividing the tappable areas as your layout.
When you split a single image into multiple areas, you can assign a separate action to each area. In addition to a single panel (no division), patterns such as a two-way horizontal split and a four-way split are available.
If you use an image with a height other than square, only the single panel can be selected.
Set the Action for When Tapped
Set what happens when each area is tapped.
| Action | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Link | When tapped, it opens the URL you specify |
| Text | When tapped, it sends the text you set |
Because you can change the action for each area, you can, for example, use the left half as a link to a product page and the right half to send an inquiry text.
Set the Usage Status
A Rich Message has two statuses: in use and stopped.
Only Rich Messages that are in use can be selected in a Message Broadcast or in Auto Send Messages. Before using one to send, make sure it is set to in use. When you want to temporarily stop using one, switch it to stopped.
Save the Rich Message
Once you have finished configuring the settings, click "Save Rich Message".
A saved Rich Message can be called up and used when selecting a message in a Message Broadcast or in Auto Send Messages.
About Displaying Alternative Text
Whether the alternative text appears in a notification depends on its position within the Message Broadcast.
In a single Message Broadcast, you can send multiple messages (bubbles) together. In this case, what appears in the push notification is the content of the first message. If you want the alternative text of a Rich Message to appear in the push notification, place that Rich Message as the first message.
| Position of the Rich Message | Display in the push notification |
|---|---|
| First message | The alternative text of the Rich Message is displayed |
| Second message onward | Not displayed (the content of the first message is displayed) |
Manage Rich Messages
On the Rich Message list screen, you can organize, change the status of, and delete Rich Messages.
| Operation | Details |
|---|---|
| Organize with Folders | You can create a Folder and organize your Rich Messages together |
| Switch the usage status | Switch between in use and stopped |
| Delete | Delete a Rich Message you no longer use |
When Things Are Not Working
Here are common issues with Rich Messages and how to address them.
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| It cannot be selected in a Message Broadcast | Check whether the Rich Message is set to in use |
| The action does not work when tapped | Check whether the action (the link URL, the text content) is set correctly for the area |
| The image does not appear | Check whether the image was uploaded correctly. Try uploading it again |
| The alternative text does not appear in the push notification | Place the Rich Message as the first message of the broadcast. If it is the second message onward, the push notification shows the content of the first message |
