Registering a test recipient lets you check the content and the appearance of a broadcast in the LINE of a Lumo member before the live send. Test recipients are registered per LINE Official Account, and a test send can only go to those registered members. This article covers registering, sending a test, removing a registration, and what to do when something doesn't work.
What is a test recipient?
A test recipient links a Lumo member with that member's own LINE account, which is a friend in Lumo.
When you select a registered member under "Delivery Confirmation" in a broadcast, the test message arrives in the LINE of the linked friend. The selection field shows the Lumo member's name, not the LINE display name. You can't pick a friend directly.
Registration happens one person at a time, per LINE Official Account. A member with no registration on the delivery source account doesn't appear as a test recipient for that broadcast. Registering alone sends nothing: a message only goes out when you select "Send test message".
What to check before registering
Register the Lumo member who has personally added the target LINE Official Account as a friend.
- You are signed in to Lumo
- The LINE Official Account is connected to Lumo
- The member you register is active
- The person you register has added the target LINE Official Account as a friend and hasn't blocked it
- The member changing the registration has the "Broadcasts" permission
Members can register and remove their own test recipient. Only a workspace administrator can register or remove another member's test recipient.
Registering your own test recipient
Register your own test recipient per LINE Official Account from "Test recipients" in your personal settings.
- Select the account icon at the top right of the screen and open "Personal Settings"
- Under "Test recipients", select "Register test recipient" on the row of the LINE Official Account you want
- In the dialog, "LINE Official Account" and "Member to register" are already filled in with the account you chose and yourself
- Under "Friend to link", select your own LINE account. You can search by name, and the options carry a "#friend number". "Selected friend details" opens the friend's details in a new tab
- Select "Register test recipient"
Lumo verifies the friendship with LINE while registering, showing "Verifying with LINE and registering…". When it finishes you see "Test recipient registered" and the change takes effect right away. You don't need to select "Save" in personal settings afterwards.
On an account that already has a registration, "Change" on the row lets you link a different friend. In that case you see "Test recipient registration overwritten".
Registering a test recipient for another member
A workspace administrator can register another member's test recipient from "Test recipients" on the member edit screen.
- From "Settings" in the navigation menu, open "Member Settings"
- Select the target member from the list and open the edit screen
- Under "Test recipients", select "Register test recipient" on the row of the LINE Official Account you want
- Under "Friend to link", select that member's own LINE account
- Select "Register test recipient"
Compare the member's name with the LINE display name to confirm you picked that member's own LINE account. When someone other than an administrator opens another member's row, "Only administrators can change another member’s test recipients." appears and the row can't be changed.
Registering a test recipient from Delivery Confirmation
If nothing is registered yet, you can register on the spot from "Delivery Confirmation" in a broadcast.
- On the broadcast creation or edit screen, open "Delivery Confirmation"
- Open the "Test recipient" selection field. With no registration you see "Register a test recipient using the button below"
- Select "Register test recipient" in the selection field
- "LINE Official Account" is already set to the delivery source account. Choose "Member to register" and "Friend to link"
- Select "Register test recipient"
The member you registered is selected automatically in the "Test recipient" field you had open. Anyone who is not an administrator can only register their own test recipient.
Registration rules for test recipients
Registration works per LINE Official Account, with rules that keep two members from sharing one friend.
| Item | Specification |
|---|---|
| Friends you can register | Only friends who have added the selected LINE Official Account and haven't blocked it. The friendship is verified with LINE at registration |
| Registration scope | Registration is per LINE Official Account. To run a test send from another account, register separately on that account too |
| Registrations per member | One friend per LINE Official Account. Registering another friend replaces the previous registration |
| The same friend twice | Within a workspace, the same friend can't be registered to more than one Lumo member |
| When it takes effect | Selecting "Register test recipient" takes effect right away. A removal takes effect when you save the page |
| Members that appear | A member appears only when they are active, have a registration on the delivery source LINE Official Account, and that friend still follows the account |
| Older registrations | Registrations made before the per-account model no longer work. When you see "Test recipients are now registered per LINE Official Account. Select the friend again for each account you use.", register again on each account |
Using a test recipient in a test send
In a test send you can select up to 5 registered test recipients at a time and send them the same message.
- Open the creation or edit screen of the broadcast
- Review the messages and delivery settings, then open "Delivery Confirmation"
- Under "Test recipient", select a registered member
- To send to more people, use "Add test recipient". Once you add a second one, the fields are numbered, such as "Test Recipient 1" and "Test Recipient 2"
- Select "Send test message"
- Check the result on screen. When a send fails, the number of failures and the reasons appear
- Check the wording, images, buttons, and link destinations in the actual LINE chat
A test send never reaches the live recipients, and it isn't included in the broadcast statistics or the recipient list. It does count toward the monthly message send count for both your LINE Official Account and Lumo. In an A/B test, the pattern currently displayed is what gets delivered.
Using test recipients with an Auto-Send Message
You can also send a message to a registered test recipient from an Auto-Send Message to check its content.
- On the Auto-Send Message edit screen, open "Delivery Confirmation"
- Choose the account under "LINE Official Account for this test"
- Under "Test recipient", select a member registered on that account
- Select "Send test message"
For a LINE Notification Message test, the customer behind the selected test recipient must have a phone number on file.
Removing a test recipient
To remove one, select the trash icon on the row, confirm the removal in the dialog, and then save the page.
Removing your own registration
- From the account icon at the top right of the screen, open "Personal Settings"
- Under "Test recipients", select "Remove", the trash icon, on the row of the LINE Official Account you want to clear
- In the "Remove this test recipient?" dialog, select "Remove test recipient"
- Select "Save" on the personal settings screen
Removing another member's registration
- From "Settings" in the navigation menu, open "Member Settings"
- Select the target member from the list and open the edit screen
- Under "Test recipients", select "Remove", the trash icon, on the row of the LINE Official Account you want to clear
- Select "Remove test recipient" in the dialog
- Select "Save member" on the member edit screen
Selecting "Remove test recipient" in the dialog doesn't finish the removal on its own. The dialog says so as well: "The removal takes effect after you select “Save” on this page." If you select "Cancel" before saving, or leave the page without saving, the removal is undone. Registrations for other LINE Official Accounts stay as they are.
Removing a registration changes nothing about the friendship or block status on the LINE Official Account, the friend's information in Lumo, or your live broadcasts.
When things don't work
When registering, removing, or test sending goes wrong, check the LINE Official Account, the friendship and block status, and the link to the member, in that order.
Registration and removal errors
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| The person isn't listed under "Friend to link" | Check that you picked the right LINE Official Account. Also check that the person has added that account as a friend and hasn't blocked it. Right after adding, wait a moment and reload the screen |
| "This friend is already registered to another Lumo member." | The same friend can't be registered to more than one member. Remove the registration from the current member, save, then register the right member. To change someone else's registration, ask an administrator |
| "This friend could not be verified for this account. Check the selected friend, friendship, and block status." | LINE couldn't confirm the friendship. Check that the person has added that account as a friend and hasn't blocked it, and check the account and friend combination. Friends who were never really added, such as those brought in by an import, drop out of the list, so have the person add the account in LINE and register again |
| "This LINE Official Account connection could not be verified. Check its connection settings." | Something is wrong with the LINE Official Account's connection. Check the channel status in the LINE connection settings |
| "LINE verification failed. Please try registering again later." | A temporary error on LINE's side. Wait a moment and register again |
| "We couldn't check whether this friend can be registered. Please try again later." | Select "Retry". If it happens again, wait a moment and reload the screen |
| "Failed to register the test recipient" | If you picked a member other than yourself, ask an administrator to register. If your own registration fails too, check the friendship and block status and the "Broadcasts" permission, then wait a moment and register again |
| "We couldn't load the test recipients. Please try again later." | Select "Retry". If that doesn't help, reload the screen |
| The test recipient is still there after removing it | The dialog's "Remove test recipient" isn't enough on its own. Select "Save" on the personal settings screen or "Save member" on the member edit screen |
| "Failed to remove the test recipient. Please save again." | Keep the page open and save once more. If it still fails, reload the screen and check the registration |
Test send errors
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Searching the picker shows "No results found", or the picker is empty | The picker lists only test recipients (Lumo members) registered beforehand on the delivery source LINE Official Account. You can't search for and pick a friend directly. If nothing is registered yet, register from "Register test recipient" in the picker, or from "Test recipients" in "Personal Settings" |
| "Select a test recipient" | Select a registered member under "Test recipient" |
| "Register a test recipient using the button below" | No member has a registration on the delivery source LINE Official Account. Register one from "Register test recipient" |
| "This friend cannot receive test messages because they have not been registered in advance" | Register that member again as a test recipient on the LINE Official Account you chose as the delivery source |
| "The test recipient registration has changed. Please select the recipients again." | The registration changed while you were selecting. Pick again under "Test recipient" |
| "The selected test recipient is not a friend of this broadcast's delivery source account" | Check the delivery source LINE Official Account and select a test recipient registered on that account |
| "The test recipient could not be found" | Check that the person has added the target LINE Official Account as a friend and hasn't blocked it. Register the test recipient again if needed |
| "No chat room was found for the test recipient" | The person may never have interacted with that LINE Official Account. Check the friendship status and register the test recipient again if needed |
| "The test recipient could not be reached (they may have blocked or unfriended the account)" | Check whether the test recipient has blocked or unfriended the LINE Official Account |
| "LINE temporarily rate-limited the send. Please try again shortly" | Wait a while, then run the test send again |
| "The feed has no products to show" | Check the products in the content feed used by the product card, and its fallback products |
| "The LINE Official Account has reached its monthly message limit" | Check your usage in LINE Official Account Manager |
Tips for safe test sends
Deciding up front who receives test sends, and what they contain, makes a misdirected send far less likely.
- Register Lumo members who are clearly recognisable as the people running tests
- Never register a customer's LINE account as a test recipient
- Before sending, compare the test recipient against the delivery source LINE Official Account
- Keep personal and confidential information out of test messages
- Remove the registration when a member moves on from testing or leaves the company
