Segments let you automatically group friends who match conditions you define, so you can target exactly the right people for every Message Broadcast.
What Are Segments?
A Segment is a feature that automatically groups together friends who match the conditions you set. Once you define conditions such as "purchased 3 or more times" or "within 7 days of adding you as a friend," matching friends are gathered automatically and can be used as the target for a Message Broadcast.
Because the friends who match your conditions are always kept up to date, a Segment you create once can be reused for recurring broadcasts.
Let the Agent Handle It
When you let the agent decide "who to send to," it proposes and sets up a Segment that fits your goal. Before building conditions yourself, we recommend consulting the agent first.
In Auto mode or Consult mode, you can tell the agent things like the following.
- "I want to send a comeback campaign to friends who haven't purchased recently."
- "I want to send onboarding to people who just became friends."
- "I want to give a limited coupon only to repeat customers."
The agent builds the Segment conditions that match your goal and proposes them along with an estimated number of recipients. Once you review the proposal and select "Approve", the Segment is created and you move straight into preparing the broadcast. If the proposal doesn't fit your purpose, select "Cancel" and tell the agent your conditions again.
If you want to define the conditions in detail yourself, you can also create a Segment manually from the Segment list.
The Difference Between Tags and Segments
Let's clarify the differences first. Confusing them makes it easy to specify the wrong recipients for a broadcast.
| Name | Role | Main Use |
|---|---|---|
| Friend Tag | A label attached to a friend | Classify friends manually or automatically, such as "VIP" or "Seminar Attendee" |
| Segment | A group of friends matching conditions | Narrow down the recipients of a Message Broadcast |
You can use Friend Tags in Segment conditions. For example, you can create a Segment of "friends who have the 'VIP' tag." You can also add and remove tags from Chat (the inbox), and they count as the same tags in Segment conditions no matter which screen you used.
What You Can Do with Segments
With Segments, you can narrow down your recipients in fine detail.
- Send targeted messages only to friends who match specific conditions
- Classify friends based on their Friend Tags or the date they added you as a friend
- Classify based on Shopify integration data (number of purchases, days since last purchase, Shopify tags, and more)
- Classify based on HubSpot integration data (properties such as lifecycle stage and lead status)
- Classify based on Klaviyo integration data (lists, properties, and more)
- Combine multiple conditions with AND (match all) and OR (match any) to narrow down
The Segment List Screen
On the Segment list screen, you can manage the Segments you have created. Open it from the "Account" menu of your LINE Official Account.
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | The name of the Segment. Click it to open the edit screen |
| Number of Friends | The number of friends who match the conditions |
| Usage | Indicates whether the Segment is being used, for example in a broadcast |
| Last Updated | The date and time the Segment was last updated |
Each Segment has a "Create Broadcast" option, so you can immediately create a Message Broadcast that uses that Segment as the recipients.
As your Segments grow, you can organize them with "Create Folder".
Types of Conditions
You can choose Segment conditions from several categories depending on your integration status. Conditions for external services you haven't integrated are not shown.
LINE and Tag Conditions
| Condition | Description |
|---|---|
| LINE friend added date | Narrows down by the date a friend was added. You can specify a date range, before or after a specific date, and more |
| Tag | Narrows down friends who do or don't have a specific Friend Tag |
Shopify Integration Conditions

|---|---|
| Shopify ID linked | Narrows down by whether the friend is linked to a Shopify customer ID |
| Shopify tag | Narrows down by Shopify customer tag. You can choose from multiple tags |
| Number of purchases | Narrows down by the number of purchases on Shopify. You can specify a range or comparison of the count |
| Days since last purchase | Narrows down by the number of days elapsed since the last purchase |
| Abandoned cart | Narrows down friends who added a product to their cart but didn't purchase. You can also narrow down by the time elapsed since the cart was abandoned (in hours) |
HubSpot Integration Conditions
| Condition | Description |
|---|---|
| HubSpot ID linked | Narrows down by whether the friend is linked to a HubSpot contact ID |
| HubSpot segment | Narrows down by whether the friend belongs to a segment on the HubSpot side |
| HubSpot property | Narrows down by HubSpot contact properties (email address, company name, lifecycle stage, lead status, and more) |
Klaviyo Integration Conditions
| Condition | Description |
|---|---|
| Klaviyo ID linked | Narrows down by whether the friend is linked to a Klaviyo profile |
| Klaviyo list | Narrows down by whether the friend belongs to a Klaviyo list |

How to Combine Conditions
Multiple conditions are grouped into "filter conditions," and you stack those groups to combine them flexibly. The way conditions are joined differs within a group and between groups.
- Conditions within a group: Joined with AND (match all). Add conditions to a single group with "Add Property (AND)"
- Between groups: Joined with OR (match any). Add a group with "Add Another Condition (OR)"
For example, you can set up a filter like the following.
- Filter condition 1: Linked with a Shopify ID and 5 or more purchases
- OR
- Filter condition 2: Linked with a HubSpot ID and lifecycle stage is "Customer"
In this case, friends who match either filter condition 1 or filter condition 2 are targeted.
Previewing the Number of Recipients
On the Segment edit screen, a "Segment Preview" appears on the right side, where you can check the conditions you're setting and the number of recipients. Before broadcasting, you can grasp "who and how many people it will reach."
- Current conditions: Shows a summary of the conditions you're setting
- Total friends matching conditions: Shows the number of people who match the conditions
- Friend list: The preview shows up to 10 people
After changing conditions, save with "Save Segment" to calculate the recipients, and the latest count is reflected in the preview.
Steps to Create One Yourself
If you create a Segment manually instead of letting the agent handle it, create it from the Segment list. Just build the conditions and save, and the matching friends are gathered automatically.
- On the Segment list screen, select "Create Segment"
- Enter a name for the Segment in "Name"
- In "Filter Conditions", select the conditions you want to target and set their values
- To add more conditions, use "Add Property (AND)" to add to the same group, or "Add Another Condition (OR)" to add a separate group
- Check the number of recipients in the "Segment Preview" on the right
- Select "Save Segment"
After saving, you can create a broadcast right away from "Create Broadcast" in the list.
Common Usage Patterns
Segments are useful when you want to create broadcasts tailored to a purpose. Here are some typical ways to use them.
| Purpose | Segment Conditions | Broadcast Example |
|---|---|---|
| Broadcast to repeat customers | Shopify purchases of 3 or more | Broadcast a perk exclusive to repeat customers |
| Re-engaging dormant customers | 90 or more days since last purchase | Broadcast a comeback campaign |
| Abandoned cart follow-up | Friends with an abandoned cart | Remind them of the products left in their cart |
| Linking with HubSpot campaigns | Belongs to a specific HubSpot segment | Broadcast a sales follow-up message |
| Onboarding new friends | LINE friend added date within 7 days | Broadcast a usage guide or tutorial |
For any of these campaigns, just tell the agent your goal and you can leave everything from proposing conditions to preparing the broadcast to the agent.
