When you link a HubSpot contact and a Lumo LINE friend by ID, the contact's information and the friend's LINE behavior data are tied together as a single person, which improves the precision of your Segment broadcasts and Workflows. Before starting, make sure the prerequisites are in place, then choose from six linkage methods and confirm the result.
What you can do with ID linking
ID linkage is the mechanism that ties a HubSpot contact and a Lumo LINE friend together as "the same person." The link is identified by the contact's "LINE User ID" property.
Once linkage is complete, you can do the following:
- Manage HubSpot contact information (name, email address, and so on) together with the LINE friend
- Build Segments based on HubSpot properties or segments (lists), then narrow the audience and broadcast messages to them
- Send a message to a specific LINE friend from a HubSpot Workflow
A Segment here means "the conditions that narrow down who receives a broadcast," which is a different concept from a tag attached to each individual friend. Once a friend's ID is linked, you can use their HubSpot attributes directly as Segment conditions.
What you need for the integration
Before you start ID linkage, the following three things must be complete.
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| HubSpot integration is complete | The integration between Lumo and HubSpot must be set up. For the steps, see How to Integrate HubSpot |
| LINE Login is configured | In your LINE Official Account settings, the LINE Login channel ID, channel secret, and LIFF URL must be registered |
| LINE friends are imported | Your LINE Official Account friends must be imported into Lumo |
To configure LINE Login, select your LINE Official Account from the navigation menu, then go to "Settings" and "LINE Login". For the setup steps, see LINE Official Account Settings.
Choosing from six linking methods
There are six methods for ID linkage. The right method differs depending on whether you are "having someone become a new friend," "linking an existing friend," or "already have a LINE User ID on the HubSpot side."
| Method | Overview | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| QR Code linkage | Attach linkage settings to a Lumo QR Code so that the ID is linked at the same time the friend is added | You want to grow your friend count while linking IDs |
| Marketing email linkage | Send an existing contact a HubSpot marketing email, and have them log in with LINE Login from a button to link the ID | You want to link existing HubSpot contacts with LINE friends |
| Form linkage | Send a HubSpot form URL over LINE so that the LINE User ID is recorded on the contact at the same time the form is submitted | You already run HubSpot forms such as surveys or sign-ups |
| Link IDs from lists | Read the LINE User IDs held by contacts in a HubSpot segment and automatically link them to Lumo friends | You already have LINE User ID values on the HubSpot side |
| Workflow ID linkage action | Use the "ID linkage by form submission" action in a HubSpot workflow to find contacts that share a value such as a member ID and merge them into one | A contact created as a LINE friend and a contact created by a form or member registration exist separately |
| Link with the Public API | Call Lumo's Public API to link the ID, starting from LINE Login on your own site | You have LINE Login on your member site and development resources (Enterprise plan) |
With any method, once the friend completes the action, there is a LINE User ID value on the HubSpot side, or the contacts for the same person are merged into one, Lumo automatically creates the link. The following sections explain the steps for each method.
Linking IDs with a QR Code
When you attach linkage settings to a Lumo QR Code, adding a friend takes them through LINE Login, and that friend's LINE User ID is automatically set on the HubSpot contact. This lets you acquire new friends and link IDs all at once.
Creating a QR Code and setting up the link
- Select your LINE Official Account from the navigation menu, open "QR Code", and click "Create QR Code"
- Under "Integration Type", select "HubSpot integration"
- Enter the required fields and click "Save QR Code"
- Place the generated QR Code or linkage URL on storefronts, flyers, web pages, emails, and so on
The linkage URL appears after you save. Save the settings first, then open the QR Code edit screen again to check the URL.
What the friend does
- The friend scans the QR Code or opens the linkage URL
- The LINE Login authorization screen appears, and the friend grants permission
- The friend's LINE User ID is set on the HubSpot contact, and ID linkage is complete
For the general QR Code creation steps, see How to Create a QR Code, and for an overview of the feature, see What Is a QR Code.
Linking IDs with a marketing email
When you send an existing HubSpot contact a HubSpot marketing email and have them log in with LINE Login from a button in the email, that contact and the LINE friend are linked. This is well suited for connecting customers whose email addresses you already have with your LINE friends.
Preparing the linking URL
- Configure ID linkage with a QR Code, and prepare the generated linkage URL
- Append a HubSpot personalization token to the URL so that it is automatically replaced with each contact's value when the email is sent
Inserting it into a marketing email
- Create a marketing email in HubSpot
- Insert the linkage URL as a button or image link (pasting it directly as text in the body may not work correctly)
- Send it to the target contacts using a HubSpot Workflow or email sending feature
When a contact presses the button in the email and completes LINE Login, ID linkage is established.
Notes on marketing email linking
| Note | Details |
|---|---|
| Use a marketing email | To have the personalization token replaced, you must send from a HubSpot marketing email. If you send from an external email tool, the token won't be replaced with a value and linkage will fail |
| Test sends can't be used to verify | Tokens are not replaced in test sends. Verify the behavior with an actual send |
| Set the link on a button or image | Insert the linkage URL as a button or image link, not pasted directly into the body |
Linking IDs with a form submission
When you send a HubSpot form URL in a broadcast or auto message, adding a query parameter that passes the LINE User ID means the contact's LINE User ID is recorded the moment the friend submits the form, establishing ID linkage. This is well suited when you already run HubSpot forms such as surveys or sign-ups.
Adding the query parameter to the form URL
- In the broadcast or auto message creation screen, enter the HubSpot form URL in the message body
- When a HubSpot form URL is detected, a notice reading "HubSpot form URL detected" appears along with an example of the query parameter to add
- Append the query parameter to the end of the URL exactly as shown in the example. If the URL already has a query string, join it with
&
The {{ line_user_id }} part of the query parameter is automatically replaced with the receiving friend's own LINE User ID when the message is sent.
Setting up the HubSpot form
- Edit the target form in HubSpot and add a field for the contact's "LINE User ID" property
- Set the added field to hidden
Because the query parameter name corresponds to the LINE User ID property, when a friend opens the form from the URL they received on LINE, their own LINE User ID is automatically filled into the hidden field. When the friend submits the form, the value is recorded on the contact's LINE User ID property, and Lumo automatically links that contact with the friend.
Notes on form linking
| Note | Details |
|---|---|
| Linkage only works from URLs sent over LINE |
{{ line_user_id }} is replaced when a broadcast or auto message is sent. Pasting the same URL on a website or in an external email doesn't pass the LINE User ID |
| The URL is personal to the recipient | If the message is forwarded, the original friend's LINE User ID is recorded. Have the person who received the message fill out the form themselves |
| The form needs a LINE User ID field | If the form doesn't have a hidden field for the LINE User ID property, the query parameter value is not recorded |
Linking IDs from a list
If your HubSpot contacts already have LINE User ID values, you only need to specify a HubSpot segment, and Lumo reads the LINE User IDs in that segment and automatically links them to friends. There is no need to have anyone do this one record at a time.
Setting up the import
- In the HubSpot integration settings screen, open "Link IDs from lists"
- Under "Source list", select the HubSpot segment to import from
- Under "LINE User ID property", select the property that contains the LINE User ID
- Save the settings
Once you specify a segment, existing LINE User IDs are periodically imported from HubSpot and linked to Lumo friends. If you remove the specification, the import stops.
If you migrated from CONNECT, you can specify the contact property you were using before as is. If you are starting fresh, you can proceed with the default settings without any issue.
Linking IDs with the Public API
If your membership site has its own LINE Login, you can link IDs through Lumo's Public API. The link is created the moment your customer logs in with LINE on your site.
- Get the customer's access token through your site's LINE Login
- Call Lumo's identity link API from your server, passing the access token along with the HubSpot contact property to match on (such as a member ID) and its value
- Lumo verifies the token, finds the friend, and links them to the matching HubSpot contact
This is available on the Enterprise plan. For everything you need to implement it, such as how to build requests and handle errors, open "View API Documentation" under "API Key" in your workspace settings.
Linking IDs with the HubSpot workflow ID linkage action
When you add the "ID linkage by form submission" action to a HubSpot workflow, it uses a shared value such as a member ID as the key to find another contact for the same person and merge the two into one. This is well suited when a contact created as a LINE friend and a contact created by a form submission or member registration exist separately.
- In HubSpot, create a contact workflow triggered by an event such as a form submission
- Add "ID linkage by form submission" as an action
- Enter the property to use as the search key and the property to search, by their internal names
- Choose which contact to keep after the merge. When you leave it unspecified, Lumo decides
When a contact with the same value is found, the two contacts are merged in HubSpot and the LINE friend is tied to the contact that remains. The settings are covered in detail in LINE actions for HubSpot workflows.
Checking that the link succeeded
You can confirm whether ID linkage was established from both HubSpot and Lumo.
| Where to check | How to check |
|---|---|
| HubSpot | Open the target contact and confirm that the LINE property "LINE User ID" contains a value |
| Lumo | Open the target friend in the friend list and confirm that the HubSpot contact information is displayed |
In Lumo's friend list, you can also use a Segment to narrow down to only the friends already linked with HubSpot. This is handy when you want to confirm your audience is ready before a broadcast.
You can also start from the moment an identity link is established and automate a thank-you or a perk with the Workflow "Identity Linked" trigger.
When things don't work
When ID linkage is not established, check the following points depending on the cause.
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| The LINE Login authorization screen doesn't appear | In your LINE Official Account settings, confirm that the LINE Login channel ID, channel secret, and LIFF URL are registered correctly |
| The LINE User ID is not set on the HubSpot contact | Confirm that the HubSpot integration is active and check the connection status in the integration settings screen |
| An error occurs during linkage from the QR Code | Confirm that the QR Code's "Integration Type" is set to "HubSpot integration" and that the linkage URL is correct |
| The link in the email doesn't work | Confirm that you are sending from a marketing email and that the URL is inserted as a button or image link. Verify with an actual send, not a test send |
| Submitting the form doesn't link the ID | Confirm that the query parameter is added to the URL in the message and that the form has a hidden field for the LINE User ID property. Linkage doesn't work from URLs placed outside LINE, such as on a website |
If that still doesn't resolve it, removing the linkage and setting it up again can sometimes help. When you remove the linkage, the data synced from HubSpot and the existing ID linkage information are deleted. After you re-link and the friend performs ID linkage again, the link is recreated.
