When you enable two-factor authentication, signing in requires a 6-digit code from your authenticator app in addition to your password, protecting your account from unauthorized access. You can finish the setup from your personal settings in just a few minutes.
What Is Two-Factor Authentication?
Two-factor authentication is a security feature that asks you to confirm your identity with a 6-digit code from your authenticator app on top of your password. Even if your password is leaked, no one can sign in unless they are you and have your authenticator app.
The setting is configured per user. Because it does not affect other Members of your Workspace, you can go ahead and enable it for your own account first.
Enabling Two-Factor Authentication
You enable two-factor authentication by linking your authenticator app from Two-Factor Authentication in your personal settings. The setup requires an authenticator app on your smartphone.
Setup Steps
- Click your account icon in the top-right corner of the screen and open Personal Settings
- Under the Two-Factor Authentication item, check Enable
- In your authenticator app, scan the QR Code shown on screen
- Enter the 6-digit code displayed in your authenticator app into Verification Code
- Click Enable
Once setup is complete, you will see the message Two-factor authentication is enabled.
If You Cannot Scan the QR Code
If you cannot read the QR Code, you can manually register the string shown under Enter Manually in your authenticator app. After registering it, you can enable two-factor authentication the same way using the displayed 6-digit code.
Signing In with Two-Factor Authentication
Once two-factor authentication is enabled, signing in requires you to enter a verification code in addition to confirming your password.
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Enter your email address and password to sign in |
| 2 | On the verification code screen, enter the 6-digit code displayed in your authenticator app |
| 3 | Click Confirm |
The code in your authenticator app refreshes at regular intervals. If the code changes while you are entering it, enter the latest code.
Disabling Two-Factor Authentication
You can disable two-factor authentication at any time from Two-Factor Authentication in your personal settings. To verify your identity, entering a verification code is required when disabling it as well.
- Open Personal Settings and display the Two-Factor Authentication item
- Click Disable
- Enter the 6-digit code displayed in your authenticator app to confirm
Once it is disabled, you will no longer need to enter a verification code when signing in from then on.
Supported Authenticator Apps
You can use any authenticator app that supports the TOTP standard. Because many authenticator apps support it, you can keep using an app you already have.
| App | Supported OS |
|---|---|
| Google Authenticator | iOS / Android |
| Microsoft Authenticator | iOS / Android |
| Other TOTP-compatible apps | Usable as long as they support the TOTP standard |
Troubleshooting
Here are some common issues with two-factor authentication and how to resolve them.
- Cannot read the QR Code: Update your authenticator app to the latest version. If you still cannot read it, you can manually register the string shown under Enter Manually in your authenticator app
- Verification code does not match: Check that your authenticator app's time setting is accurate. Setting your smartphone's time to "automatic" can sometimes resolve this. Also, because the code changes at regular intervals, enter the latest code
- You can no longer access your authenticator app: If you can no longer use your authenticator app due to switching devices or deleting the app, you may be unable to sign in yourself. Please contact Lumo Support
